Lab Report #1

Chapter 1

In this first word cloud, as well as the other three, obviously the words “digital” and “humanities” are the most used terms. Other terms of note include: “convention,” “English,” “computing,” “conference,” and “scholarship.” This article was more technical and functioned more as an introduction into the discussion on what was and what is digital humanities. The word cloud results reflect its central theme(s).

Chapter 2

In addition to “digital” and “humanities,”popular terms from this chapter include: “computing,” “scholars,” “technologies,” “studies,” “media,” “traditional,” and “tension.” This piece introduced the tensions within the field of digital humanities, taking the debate a step further than the previous author did.

Chapter 3

The most used terms from this chapter and word cloud are wildly different compared to the first two. Popular terms include: “community,” “knowledge,” “collaboration,” “knowledge,” “DH,” and “open.” This word cloud, like the piece, honed in on the importance of community and collaboration, that it does not do the field well to practice exclusion.

Chapter 4

The most popular terms of this final word cloud include: “research,” “field,” “conference,” “new,” and “inclusive.” Focusing on the idea of the “Big Tent,” this word cloud does not fully reflect the goals of the author, regarding how to identify (the) digital humanities. This word cloud does not hold up as well as the previous three.
